"A small program that did exactly what I wanted" I love these tiny programs that do one thing well. As a composer, I sometimes use a random music generator so I can poke around and get little snippets of ideas as a starting point for my own music, the software I use generates up to a 100 files all numbered 1-100 and then starts over-writing the previous files. This allows me to change the software generated file name to a date and keep the number assigned by the software (it comes out MYMIDI00 to MYMIDI99 and I change to MM-DD-YYYY00 to 99) ...which is what I needed and not something that would butter my toast too.
