Step #1 Tuning Flash Optimizer...

Now let's go to FO Preferences (Options->Preferences or simply F11) and tune it up a bit. I recommend leaving default optimized files suffix, but in case you wish to identify them differently, input any series of symbols. If you wish to control the whole process of optimization do not select to hide the optimization window, just uncheck "Hide Optimization window". To view the errors that may appear during optimization and in selected SWF's check "Show debugger after optimization", and to clean Tasks List automatically choose to "Delete task on success". As it is stated in FAQ, if you need a faster optimization, set the optimization process priority to a higher value, or select TimeCritical to give the process the highest priority, but expect a slight slowdown of other programs running, then.

Then, There's Step #2: Loading a SWF...

load a SWF file into Flash Optimizer, locate it using embedded File Explorer or find it manually using Windows Explorer or any other file manager and drag-and-drop it into FO's Tasks List. Double-click the needed file in FO's Explorer to add it into the Tasks List or drag-and-drop it the same as previously

After you add a SWF to the Tasks List for Optimization, you can highlight any of added items there or get back to Explorer and select a SWF. To view it, just click Play in FO's player. You can pause playing on any frame, but note that sometimes the main timeline has only 1 or several frames, in this case the trackbar and frame-by-frame rewinding and forwarding will be of a very little help.

Original movie is always loaded into left FO's player window, the right one is reserved for optimized SWF's. Now let's check if we really have the possibility to compress the movie we selected. For optimization example we took Xxiao06.swf movie, the original of which can be found at www.xiaoxiaomovie.com. The file will be optimized on Celeron 1 Ghz with 256 Megs of RAM, Windows XP Professional. I already loaded the movie into Flash Optimizer and now I'll click "SWF info" to see which parts can be optimized.

And Finally, Step #3: Optimizing Flash...

There are two ways to optimize SWF files in FO: single file optimization, and batch optimization. Batch optimization is useful when you need to optimize several movies one-by-one. In this way it is more convenient to add all of them into the Tasks List and click "Optimize". Every file will be compressed to a possible extent depending on the parameters selected, and saved as another SWF with the suffix, set in Preferences.
